Research in IMST at Sun Moon University Mechanical Engineering Department includes a vigorous program of work in Surface Engineering, Tribology and Fatigue of materials. We are currently working on the following main projects:
- Improvement in strength, friction and wear of rail/wheel surfaces in rolling and sliding contact
- Development of ultrasonic surface modification technique to measure impact force and amplitude
- Improvement in friction and wear behavior of sintered at high and elevated temperatures
- Wear Mechanisms of sintered ceramics under dry, water- and oil-lubricated conditions
- Remanufacturing of bearings
- Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) of Ni-based alloys and dissimilar weldment for nuclear applications
- Multi-scale analysis and simulation of materials behavior
Almost all of these projects are being performed in collaboration with industrial and academic partners, and many benefit from collaboration with other research groups in the Department in such fields as materials science, hybrid engineering, eco-materials, etc. The group has good laboratory and workshop facilities where the experimental works can be performed easily.
